THIAE

£540.00

THIAE is inspired by the three Bee witches from ancient agreed Mythology. The THIAE were the ancient seers that prophesied the future and taught divination from Mount Parnassos.

I see these creatures as effigies of huge elemental land spirits. These beings are archetypal guardians of the ley lines that traverse and snake across the landscape, interconnecting and energising sacred sites across the earth. They live in the liminal realms but at twilight between the mist and sky they occasionally can be seen.

Hawthorn is native to many countries in Europe. It has woven itself into the folklore and mythology of many cultures through the ages. This small thorny tree is often known as a fairy tree in Ireland. In Wales it was a Hawthorn tree in which Merlin the magician was said to have embedded and sleeps to this day. The British Isles are full of old Myths about Dragons, mermaids, witches and Giants.

THIAE is a celebration of Hawthorns magical nature the dark forms that manifest from this gnarly wood are interlaced with the mythical creatures that still walk the lands in the shadows and the liminal realms just beyond our perception.

THIAE is carved from a several pieces of sustainably sourced hawthorn wood. After carving the main body which includes hollowing or distressing areas that I would prefer do not crack. It is then partially gilded with gold leaf. The feathers were carved individually and are somewhat interchangeable. The eye is carved from boxwood and is also movable.

There is a fixing on the back for wall hanging.

This piece is initialed.

I will add an authentication document into the package.

The carving will either be sent in a hardened cardboard or plastic tube. If it is unsuitable shape for a tube I use hardened plastic boxes internally depending on the shape I will then create a styrofoam sub structure within the box. I use Royal Mail or ParcelForce for posting around the world. Its usually tracked and signed for, if available. Depending on the country I’m posting to.

Australian buyers this carving has no bark and no defects that will cause trouble at customs. I will add full details on the outside of the box such as wood type, heat treated, Danish
Oil/lemon oil, etc. I have successfully shipped several carvings to Australia and New Zealand and many other countries around the world.
